ORIGIN STORY:
The
Epsilon of
Sigma
Phi
Sigma Phi takes great pride in its distinction as the oldest continuously operating social fraternity in the United States, dating back to its establishment in 1827. As we approach our bicentennial, the enduring legacy of Sigma Phi remains one of its most defining strengths, rooted in tradition and undiminished in purpose.
From its inception, Sigma Phi was envisioned as a close-knit brotherhood, a principle that continues to guide the Society today. Expansion has always been deliberate and selective, limited to institutions of the highest
caliber. This thoughtful growth fosters an intimate environment where the personal development of each member is paramount and lifelong friendships are formed.
Among Sigma Phi’s founding members was Thomas Bowie, who later served in the United States Congress. His example helped establish a tradition of leadership and service that continues to define the Society. Across generations, brothers have distinguished themselves in business, academia, public service, and beyond.
Our Core values nurture and develop the Sigma Phi brother. The experience received in three years at Sigma Phi is second to none. The result - a responsible, self-reliant man prepared to succeed in business, community and his family.
The Sigma Phi "The Epsilon Of New York" chapter forms a tight-knit brotherhood, dedicated to upholding excellence in leadership, scholarship, and camaraderie at Cornell University since 1890. Within the intimate setting of Sigma Phi, emphasis is placed on individual development, fostering enduring friendships that extend far beyond the college years.
