Professor Thomas D. Gilovich, the world-renowned social psychologist will be speaking on the “How to pursue happiness”

We are delighted to welcome Professor Thomas D. Gilovich to the Tanenbaum Speakers Event for a conversation about the pursuit of happiness—and what decades of research can teach us about living a happier and more meaningful life.

Professor Gilovich is a world-renowned social psychologist and Professor of Psychology at Cornell University whose research has helped shape our understanding of human judgment, decision-making, and happiness. For more than four decades, he has studied one of the most universal human questions: What actually makes us happy, and why do we so often pursue the wrong things?

Much of Professor Gilovich’s research has focused on the choices people make in the pursuit of happiness and fulfillment. His work has explored why experiences tend to bring more lasting satisfaction than material possessions, how the way we spend our time affects our well-being, and the important roles that relationships, gratitude, generosity, and shared experiences play in a happy life.

His research has been widely published and has reached audiences well beyond academia. He is the author of How We Know What Isn’t So: The Fallibility of Human Reason in Everyday Life and co-author of The Wisest One in the Room. He also co-edited Heuristics and Biases: The Psychology of Intuitive Judgment with Nobel Prize-winning psychologist Daniel Kahneman and Dale Griffin.

Professor Gilovich has received numerous honors for his contributions to psychology, including the Donald T. Campbell Award from the Society for Personality and Social Psychology for distinguished scholarly achievement and sustained excellence in social psychology.
