We
WE DON’T RUSH HIM.
WE RECOGNIZE HIM.
Most houses are looking for a type. We are looking for: the inquisitive, the motivated, the trailblazers, the ones who are already interesting at nineteen and will be extraordinary at forty. Young men who think for themselves, who bring something into the room that wasn't there before, and who make the men around them better simply by being one of them. We take the time to recognize him!
What follows is how this house is run, who stands behind it, and what three years among men like this does for the man your son is becoming.
Beyond
As parents, you want your son's college experience to be exceptional, safe, and deeply rewarding. With a fraternity experience, he’ll leave with that and so much more, having spent three years in an environment designed to inspire genuine maturity and instill standards that endure.
Sigma Phi Socity isn’t a social club that happens to have a house. It’s A BROTHERHOOD run by the men who live in it, guided by alumni who once did too, and built on the belief that the best thing Cornell can give your son isn’t just a degree. It’s people who have his back for the next sixty years, not just the next four.
Benefits
&
Most parents are eager to see their sons succeed, but many do not realize what a true fraternity environment actually delivers. The data shows that fraternity men graduate at significantly higher rates, but the value goes far deeper than a diploma. Inside a house of ambitious peers, academic pursuit is not a passive obligation. It is a shared standard where young men challenge each other to think more deeply, question more boldly, and elevate their thinking.
Leadership
Academics
He gains the environment to build what a classroom cannot teach. Sigma Phi offers hands-on pathways to leadership through chapter officer elections, athletic teamwork, and active community service. He can step up and manage real responsibility before anyone hands him a title, and he'll respond to brothers who are counting on him to deliver.
This is where he develops the courage to speak hard truths and the integrity to take ownership when others are relying on him. Living alongside brothers who are nothing like him teaches him to engage, to work through conflict, and to speak up in a room full of people who will challenge him. And when he's surrounded by men who are driven, he raises his own ambitions without anyone telling him to. Practical wisdom, character, humility, accountability and self-reliance are not taught in a lecture hall. They are built in the hours around it, among men who expect it of each other.
Character
He needs a place where he feels like he belongs. Three years at One Forest Park Lane gives him that: a house small enough that no one disappears, a table he sits at most nights, and men who notice when he has something to celebrate and when he’s having a hard week.
Home away from home
The relationships don’t end at graduation. Constant interaction with board members and alumni brothers gives him mentors across every industry Cornell sends men into, and they stay in his life long after he leaves the Hill. The result is a far more useful, meaningful, and well-rounded education. From the moment he first considers rushing to the day he walks across the stage, Sigma Phi provides the direction, purpose, and brotherhood that shape the rest of his life.

Questions
Answers to the questions we’re asked most often.
-
At Sigma Phi Society, there is no place for hazing. Hazing is contrary to our values, our commitment to brotherhood, and the kind of men we seek to recognize. It is prohibited in every form, whether physical, mental, emotional, or otherwise, and no member or new member is ever expected or required to participate in hazing as a condition of membership.
Our commitment is simple: we do not haze, we do not tolerate hazing, and we do not look the other way.
Every member and new member has a responsibility to uphold this standard. If you are asked to participate in an activity that you believe constitutes hazing:
Refuse to participate.
Do not allow yourself or another member to be subjected to hazing.
Report the activity immediately to a chapter officer or another trusted member who is not involved.
If necessary, report the incident through the appropriate Cornell University or organizational channels.
No one will be penalized for refusing to participate in or reporting hazing.

No. Your son’s personal possession are treated no differently than they would be if he were a renter at an apartment. Sigma Phi strongly recommends all members living in shelters purchase renters insurance. It is generally inexpensive and will cover all your son’s personal belongings.
